Compared with the decline of Nokia, Apple, HTC, Samsung occupied the market quickly. By the end of last month, Samsung occupied of the 21.6% of global phone market, now it’s the no 1 instead of Nokia.
Samsung published many classic phones, the first slide phone, the thinnest phone. Today we just talk about its latest representative phone Samsung GALAXY S3 .
Galaxy S 3 has a dimension of 136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6 mm, used Brushed polycarbonate cover, the plastic feeling of the Galaxy S3 won’t appeal to all. It feels very lightweight (despite tipping the scales at 133g) in the hand, and some people will read this as feeling a little cheap. But we’ll be very clear on this – the Galaxy S3 is not a cheap-feeling phone. It’s got a really solid Gorilla Glass 2 front, a well-packaged interior and a more robust battery cover. It’s polycarbonate rather than bog-standard plastic.
It provides two choices ’Marble White’ and ‘Pebble Blue’, you can choose anyone you prefer.
It used the latest 4.0 Android sys.
Like its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S II, Samsung GALAXY S 3 is also a touchscreen-based, slate-format Android smartphone. Galaxy S 3 used a 4.8 inches (~306 ppi pixel density) Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, it supports 16M clors, 720 x 1280 pixels.
As expected the Galaxy S3 is assembled a Samsung’s own Exynos 4 Quad processor, 32nm chip based on the ARM Cortex A9 quad-core architecture and has a clock speed of 1.4GHz.
Samsung hasn’t specified the amount of RAM but our benchmarking app tells us that it has 780MB which the specification sheet would probably tout as 1GB.
While the storage, for internal storage, the Galaxy S3 matches the iPhone 4S and has 16GB, 32GB and 64GB capacity options. Much to our delight it also has a microSD card slot for expansion of up to a further 64GB. So you can get 128GB space at most, this is really amazing to movie funs, they can store much more movies ripped by Longo DVD Ripper .
As we know, the biggest problem for large screen phone is the cruising ability, while Samsung GALAXY S3 used a really power battery of 2100 mAh.
Other connectivity in the Galaxy S3 includes the standard Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and microUSB as well as near-field communications (NFC) technology and support for the digital living network alliance (DLNA) standard.
The 8 megapixel camera comes complete with LED flash and produces top quality images. With zero shutter lag for instant capture and a start up of just 990 milliseconds you’ll never miss a photo opportunity again. Video captures come in full HD, at 1080p, and as the front-facing camera can record in HD too you’ll be hard pushed to get anything less than perfect video.
1. Smart stay
The other big feature of the core interface that Samsung is pushing is Smart Stay. This ensures the screen doesn’t timeout and power off while you’re still looking at it. It does this by tracking you eyes using the front facing camera.
As well as saving you from annoying moments where the screen just turns off, there’s the potential to save battery by keeping the screen timeout to the minimum 15 seconds so it’s always powering off quickly, yet never be irked by the screen suddenly timing out while you’re still reading passively. It works reasonably well in well lit situations. However, in darker scenarios of if your face is masked by shadow it can struggle to read you. It also doesn’t work if the phone’s set down on a table or such like and you’re just glancing at it. Still it’s a nice feature to have.
2. Direct call
It knows when you want to talk: if you’re sending a message but decide to call instead, simply lift the phone to your ear and it will dial your friend’s number automatically. This is really very intellegent, you don’t need to save the message and find the number to call.
3. Smart alert
It knows when you’ve been away from your phone: a vibrating nudge lets you know that you have missed calls or messages.
This is taken on Apple’s Siri that’s activated by double tapping the Home button or by speaking a customisable command to the phone.
It’s very useful, particularly as you can activate it by voice alone, allowing you to stay completely hands free while driving, for instance. You can play and pause music, open apps, dictate messages, activate driving mode and of course dial a number. For these basic tasks it’s not too bad, but for complicated commend, it will tell you “I’m not sure what you mean.” Haha, really very funny, while this can be understood, phones doesn’t have the intelligence or humour of Siri.
Another function attract me most, the phone can play video content in a pop-out window while you do other tasks. So I can send messages, read emails while enjoying the movie. This is also the patent of big screen phones, for small screen, how hard for you to do two things at the same time.
Due to an overwhelming demand and a manufacturing flaw with the blue version of the phone, there was an extensive shortage of the S III, especially in the United States. Nevertheless, the S III was well-received commercially and critically, and even be selected as the best phone of the day, with some technology commentators also called it “iPhone killer“.
Whether Samsung GALAXY S3 is better than iPhone or not, we are glad to see we have more choices. And with this kind benignant competition, phone makes try their best to produce more function, add the latest technology in their phones. While for our consumer, the most benefits is we can pay much less.
